We received a couple of calls today from customers that needed help with their garage door....the service they needed did not involve the customer buying and installing a new door... These customers where told by these companies something to the effect that "they dont do that kind of thing"....
In one insistence the customer had simply purchased a new garage door himself and was looking someone to install it and he was turned down by a number of companies...Its not like he was asking someone to do it for free...
The other thing was this guy ordered two garage doors because they where on "sale"(he actually paid a normal price)- Then the company figured out that the standard size door would not fit-(how they didnt know that before the customer purchase the door I dont know-but the guy showed me the old receipt.) So anyway, usually you can cut down steel sectionals- they didnt offer to do that! They said they couldnt do it.
Another guy wanted a one-piece wooden garage door cut to fit his rental house cause he had just purchased a steel sectional at his new home. The company that installed it wouldnt do it...
It seems like a lot of guys out there are not really trying to help people find solutions to their problems- now I know sometimes these odd jobs can be a pain in the butt- but no Job is to Big or to Small for us.

This is a Steel Back Garage Door with Extra Struts on one of my previous postings. I talked about how its a good idea to have extra struts on each panel of your garage door if you live in a high wind area. This is one such door - we installed this one out in East San Diego County.

Do your self a favor dont buy Garage Openers that have 3-piece rails...

Do your self a favor dont buy Garage Openers that have 3-piece rails...you know the type that Home Depot and Loews will sell you or Sears will sell you. They just are not as good as a garage opener with a one piece rail. They are more noisy and tend to vibrate more. We replaced some springs on a one piece door today and the door had a Genie Excellerator-whoever did the installation did a horrid job so we rehung the motor properly but the opener is a genie excellerator with a 3-piece rail so its going to shake violenty-that seems to be the nature of this particular garage opener.
Buy a Chamberlin Liftmaster Opener or Jack Shaft!
They are quiet and durable and they are just the simply the best.
Unless you already have one stay away from those Marantec motors or Genies or wayne Dalton idrives--BLAH...
Get Extra Struts with your garage door if you live in a area that has High Winds
by everscarface
Get Extra Struts with your garage door if you live in a area that has High Winds. We replaced a sectional today at a home in Jamul,CA that sits on a hill. It recieves very high wind gusts and the the door actually bent inwards. The door was a non-insulated steel garage door with only one strut across the top panel. If you purchase a new door in a high wind area consider buying a steel back garage door with struts on every section or a wood door.
